SUMMARY:The way forward on non-financial reporting: Can we align Europe's policy priorities with international standard setting?
DESCRIPTION:CDSB brings together different perspectives from the EU and globally to explore how market demand for sustainability reporting standardisation can be met.\nThe European Green Deal and the need to build back greener after the global pandemic have only emphasized the need for consistent\, comparable and decision-useful corporate non-financial information. \n2021 will be a turning point on these issues\, with the review of the Non-Financial Reporting Directive in Europe and the development of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards. Several jurisdictions are mandating  the TCFD Recommendations\, and the IFRS Foundation has recently announced the establishment of the Sustainability Standards Board (SSB)\, based on the climate-related financial disclosure standard prototype developed by the Group of 5 (CDP\, CDSB\, GRI\, IIRC and SASB). \nDespite significant progress\, making sense of multiple initiatives remains a challenge. The need for further standardisation is widely supported\, however there are diverging views on how to achieve it. \nThis event gathers key stakeholders\, such as the European Commission\, IFRS Foundation\, and EFRAG\, to discuss the way forward in the development of a global approach to non-financial reporting standards and how to ensure that it works both on European and global levels.

SUMMARY:JSGS Public Lecture: Climate Risk Disclosure: What does it mean for Saskatchewan Business?
DESCRIPTION:Presented by: \nLisa DeMarco\, Senior Partner and CEO\, Resilient LLP & Canada Climate Governance Expert \nChad Eggerman\, Partner\, MLT Aikins LLP \nDr. Margot Hurlbert\, Canada Research Chair in Climate Change\, Energy and Sustainability Policy; Professor\, JSGS & Canada Climate Governance Expert \nAlastair MacFadden\, Executive-in-Residence\, JSGS & event moderator \nSaskatchewan businesses are connected to the rest of the world through investors and customers that live beyond our borders. Tighter rules requiring disclosure of climate-related information are already arriving in Canada and around the world. Canada’s Budget 2021 includes requirements for climate disclosures from Crown Corporations and the SEC announced the creation of an Enforcement Task Force focused on climate and ESG issues. What does this mean for Saskatchewan companies? How can we remain competitive\, build climate competence\, and benefit from these shifting global preferences? Join us May 18 to hear from the experts and companies about how they are responding to climate risks and opportunities.
